Saba Winery is a new Texas vineyard and winery set in the beautiful Hill County AVA in Mason, Texas.

For many years, I must admit, I did not rate Texas wines highly.  In my view, they lacked both the structure of the great wines of the Old World and the depth-of-flavor of the high-end wines of the New World.  I considered Texas wines a novelty, nothing more.

All that was changed while picking up a few bottles of wine at a local supermarket, I decided to pick up a bottle of Texas wine as a break from my usual Spanish or Argentine red.  Instead, I selected a Tannat and was immediately impressed by the structure and complexity of this wine.   Enthralled, I began to read up on Texas wines with newfound curiousity.  I learned that a new breed of winemakers had learned how to take what works and cast away what does not.  They were concentrating on Southern Rhone varietals, or Spanish and Italian classics like Tempranillo and Sangiovese.  Armed with this knowledge and a renewed palate, my wife and I travelled to Spain for inspiration.  We vistited the regopm of "Priorat" in the mountains southwest of Barcelona.  We toured a small boutique winery and immediately fell in love with the power and passion of the Spainish wines.  We were hooked!

Upon our return, we begain looking for a path to make this dream a reality.  We knew our land in Menard County in the San Saba river valley had great potential.  With a clay/limestone loamy soil and good water, we were confident that we could grow great fruit suited to our climate and terroir.  The more we searched, the more times the name - John Rivernburgh with Kerrville Hills Winery - came up.  After a few meetings and heartfelt discussions, we knew they were the right partner for us.

So I invite you all to join us on this adventure as Saba Winery stakes its claim as the newest of a new breed of Texas winemakers.  We are dedicated to bringing you our passion and our love for Texas wine in every glass!
